Bath Mats & Bath Rugs
Hand-crocheted cotton — round, oval, granny square and chindi recycled, GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified
Hand-Crocheted
Hand-crocheted in cotton yarn by artisans, blocked and finished — not a machine-tufted imitation of a crochet loop, which is what a great deal of the market actually is. Commercially, it fills a specific gap: a bath mat with a genuine craft story, the strongest sustainability narrative of any construction we make, and a texture that photographs beautifully for e-commerce. It dries faster than tufted pile and launders well. What it will not do is give you deep plush underfoot feel — if that is what the programme needs, we will point you at our tufted range rather than oversell this one.
Craft
There is a lot of product on the market described as crochet that is a machine-tufted imitation of a crochet loop. Ours is hand-crocheted in cotton yarn by artisans, then blocked and finished. You can tell the difference in the hand, and so can the customer — the slight irregularity between pieces is the product, not a defect, and it is worth saying so on the swing ticket.
Commercially it fills a specific gap: a bath mat with a genuine artisan-craft story, the strongest sustainability narrative of any construction we make, and a texture that photographs beautifully for e-commerce. What it is not is a deep plush pile — if a buyer wants that underfoot feel, we point them at our tufted range instead rather than overselling this one.
| Technique | Hand-crocheted in cotton yarn by skilled artisans, then blocked and finished. Not machine-knitted or machine-tufted — the loop structure and the slight irregularity are the point of the product. |
|---|---|
| Constructions | Round and oval spiral crochet, granny-square panels, ribbed and textured stitch grounds, chindi and recycled-yarn crochet, and crochet-edged flat-woven grounds where a lighter mat is wanted. |
| Fibres | Cotton yarn as standard, including recycled cotton and chindi (reclaimed cut cotton). GOTS certified organic cotton yarn available. |
| Sizes | 50×80 cm and 60×90 cm running; 60 cm and 90 cm rounds; oval formats and runner lengths on request. |
| Backing | Normally unbacked, which keeps the mat reversible and quick-drying. A non-slip underlay is the usual recommendation rather than a bonded backing. |
| Handle and drying | Crochet dries faster than tufted pile because of the open loop structure, and it launders well. It is a lighter, more textural mat — it will not give the plush underfoot feel of a deep tufted pile, and we would not pitch it as if it does. |
| Sustainability story | The strongest of any construction we make: hand-produced, low-energy, and available in recycled and reclaimed cotton. It is a genuine artisan-craft story rather than a manufactured one. |
| MOQ & lead time | Low, flexible MOQs, though hand-crochet is capacity-bound rather than machine-bound, so large volumes need longer lead times booked earlier. Talk to us early on seasonal programmes. |
Styles
Our production strength is the hand-crocheted border — worked directly onto a cotton ground rather than stitched on as machine-made trim. The fully-crocheted constructions below are also available, and everything can be produced in conventional, recycled or GOTS certified organic cotton yarn, recoloured to your palette.
A cotton ground finished with a hand-crocheted border. This is the bulk of what we make and the range shown below — oval, round and rectangular, in fine lace, scallop and floral border patterns.
Worked outward from the centre in a continuous spiral. The classic crochet bath mat silhouette and the strongest seller.
The same technique in an oval footprint — more practical in front of a bath or vanity than a true round.
Crocheted panels joined into a rectangle. Lets you use several colours in one piece and reads as unmistakably handmade.
Denser stitch grounds with a raised rib. The most absorbent of the crochet constructions.
Crocheted from reclaimed cut cotton. Heavier, more rustic, and the best sustainability story on the page.
Current Range
Our crochet programme is built around hand-crocheted borders worked onto cotton grounds, plus fully crocheted ribbed constructions. Every border shown here is worked by hand — not machine-made trim stitched on afterwards. All can be recoloured, resized and produced in undyed, GOTS organic or GRS recycled cotton.

AH-BT-CM-001
Tufted cotton oval finished with a hand-crocheted lace border worked directly onto the edge. The border is crocheted by hand, not machine-made trim stitched on afterwards — which is what gives it the softness and slight irregularity buyers look for.

AH-BT-CM-002
The blush colourway of our oval crochet-edge mat. Ground and border are dyed to tone, so the lace reads as texture rather than contrast.

AH-BT-CM-003
Rose ground with a two-colour crocheted border worked as a repeating flower and leaf motif. The most decorative border we produce and entirely hand-worked.

AH-BT-CM-004
Rectangular cotton ground with a scalloped crochet border. The rectangle suits retailers who want the craft cue without moving away from a standard shelf footprint.

AH-BT-CM-005
The neutral colourway of our rectangular crochet-edge mat — the most versatile piece in the range for an all-year bath programme.

AH-BT-CM-006
Round format with a deep scalloped crochet border. Round mats sit well in front of a freestanding bath or a pedestal basin, where a rectangle looks awkward.

AH-BT-CM-007
Fine open crochet lace worked around a ribbed cotton ground. The most delicate border in the range, aimed at premium and boutique hospitality programmes.

AH-BT-CM-011
Overhead view showing the full crochet lace border and the ribbed crochet ground beneath it. Taupe is the strongest-selling neutral in this construction.

AH-BT-CM-012
Ribbed crochet ground worked in natural undyed cotton, finished with a fan-stitch lace border. Fully crocheted rather than crochet-trimmed, and the best piece in the range for an undyed or organic programme.
Compliance
Every construction on this page can be produced to certified standards. Which certificate applies depends on the yarn and the programme, so we confirm it in writing at sampling stage — and the certificate travels with the shipment, not just the sales pitch.
Global Organic Textile Standard — for programmes built on certified organic cotton, covering the fibre and the processing chain through to the finished crochet bath mat.
Tested for harmful substances on the finished article. Our default certification for bath programmes, and the one most retail buyers ask for first.
Global Recycled Standard and Organic Content Standard, for recycled-content and blended-organic programmes where full GOTS is not the right fit.
Sedex registered, SA 8000, BSCI, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001 — the audit trail large retail accounts require before onboarding.
Certificate scans and transaction certificates are supplied on request — see all certifications →

Buyer Questions
Yes — hand-crocheted in cotton yarn by artisans, then blocked and finished. A lot of product sold as crochet is machine-tufted imitation of a crochet loop; ours is not. The slight variation between pieces is inherent to the technique, and worth declaring on the swing ticket rather than treating as a fault.
Less absorbent underfoot than a deep tufted pile, but faster drying because the loop structure is open. Our ribbed and textured stitch grounds are the most absorbent of the crochet constructions. If plush underfoot feel is the priority for your programme, a tufted mat is the right product and we will tell you so.
Yes to both. GOTS certified organic cotton yarn, GRS recycled cotton, and chindi — reclaimed cut cotton — are all available. Crochet in recycled or reclaimed yarn gives you the strongest sustainability story of any construction we make.
Normally not, because bonding a backing to hand-crochet loses the reversibility and the quick-drying behaviour that make it worth buying. We recommend a separate non-slip underlay where the market requires one.
Longer than machine-made constructions, because hand-crochet is limited by artisan capacity rather than machine hours. Sampling is quick; it is volume that needs planning. For a seasonal programme, talk to us early and we will book capacity against your ship window.
