Bath Mats & Bath Rugs
Pebble, bubble and ribbed relief woven on the loom — no pile to shed, faster drying, GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified
Woven Relief
A woven bath mat is made in one piece on the loom, with the pebble, bubble or ribbed relief built into the structure of the cloth rather than punched into a backing. Nothing can shed, the texture cannot pull out in the wash, and the raised surface lets air through so the mat dries between uses instead of staying damp. It is the construction we recommend wherever laundering frequency matters — rentals, serviced apartments, hospitality and family bathrooms — and it is a genuinely different product from a tufted mat, not a cheaper version of one.
Construction
The two get used interchangeably in the trade, and they should not be. A tufted bath mat has yarn punched through a separate backing cloth to form a pile, which is then locked in place. A woven bath mat is built in one piece on the loom — the texture and the pattern are structural, part of the cloth itself, with no backing cloth and no inserted pile.
That distinction has real consequences for a buyer. Because there is no pile anchored into a backing, a woven mat cannot shed, and the relief cannot pull out in the wash. It dries faster, because the raised structure lets air through rather than holding water in a dense pile. What it gives up is plushness — a woven relief will never feel as deep underfoot as a heavy tufted pile, and we would rather tell you that than have you specify the wrong construction.
If your programme is built around durability, laundering cycles and fast drying — rentals, serviced apartments, hospitality, family bathrooms — woven is usually the correct answer. If it is built around underfoot luxury, tufted is.
| Constructions | Raised-relief and high-low weaves, pebble and cobblestone reliefs, bubble and circle reliefs, ribbed and ruched weaves, waffle and honeycomb, yarn-dyed stripe, and flat dhurrie-weave grounds. |

| How it differs from tufted | A tufted mat has yarn punched through a separate backing cloth to form a pile. A woven mat is built on the loom in one piece — the texture and pattern are structural, part of the cloth itself. Nothing is anchored into a backing, so there is no pile to shed. |
| Fibres | 100% cotton as standard, including GOTS organic, GRS recycled and BCI Better Cotton. Cotton-rich blends available where a specific hand or drying speed is required. |
| Durability | Woven relief holds up well to repeated laundering because the texture cannot pull out. This is the practical argument for woven over tufted in high-turnover settings such as rentals, serviced apartments and hospitality. |
| Drying | Faster than a deep tufted pile. The relief lifts the surface off the floor and allows air through the structure, so the mat dries between uses rather than staying damp. |
| Standard sizes | 50×80 cm and 60×90 cm running. 45×70 cm, 55×85 cm, 70×120 cm, oval formats, runner lengths and contour mats on request. |
| Backing | Non-slip latex backing available and standard on our relief constructions. Unbacked where the mat is intended to be reversible — see our reversible bath mats programme. |
| Certification | OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 default; GOTS organic, GRS recycled, OCS and BCI all available. |
| MOQ & lead time | Low, flexible MOQs. A new woven relief needs loom set-up, so first sampling runs slightly longer than tufted — allow 3–4 weeks to an approved sample, then bulk against your ship window. |
Current Range
A selection from our woven bath mat and bath rug range. Every design can be recoloured to your palette, resized, rebranded and relabelled — and any of them can be produced in GOTS certified organic or GRS recycled cotton.

AH-BT-BM-013
Raised circles woven into the ground to build a soft, cushioned surface underfoot. Because the relief is created on the loom rather than tufted in, the texture is anchored in the structure of the cloth and will not shed or flatten the way a pile can.

AH-BT-BM-018
Pebble-stone relief woven in a warm coral colourway. The raised stone forms give a reflexology-like texture underfoot and disguise watermarks well — a practical advantage in a family bathroom.

AH-BT-BM-019
The neutral colourway of our pebble-stone woven bath rug. The most versatile of the textured constructions for retailers building a core all-year bath range, and our strongest-performing woven design.
Compliance
Every construction on this page can be produced to certified standards. Which certificate applies depends on the yarn and the programme, so we confirm it in writing at sampling stage — and the certificate travels with the shipment, not just the sales pitch.
Global Organic Textile Standard — for programmes built on certified organic cotton, covering the fibre and the processing chain through to the finished woven bath mat.
Tested for harmful substances on the finished article. Our default certification for bath programmes, and the one most retail buyers ask for first.
Global Recycled Standard and Organic Content Standard, for recycled-content and blended-organic programmes where full GOTS is not the right fit.
Sedex registered, SA 8000, BSCI, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001 — the audit trail large retail accounts require before onboarding.

Buyer Questions
A tufted mat has yarn punched through a separate backing cloth to form a pile. A woven mat is made in one piece on the loom, so the texture is structural rather than inserted. In practice: woven cannot shed and dries faster; tufted feels plusher and deeper underfoot. Neither is better — they suit different programmes.
For repeated laundering, generally yes. There is no pile anchored into a backing, so the relief cannot pull out or flatten in the way a tufted pile eventually will. That is why woven tends to be the right specification for rentals, serviced apartments and hospitality, where mats are washed far more often than in a domestic bathroom.
Our relief-woven constructions are supplied with a non-slip latex backing as standard, and latex-free or TPR alternatives are available. Where you want the mat to be usable on both faces we supply it unbacked instead — that is our reversible programme.
Yes. Any woven construction can be produced in GOTS certified organic cotton, GRS recycled cotton, OCS or BCI Better Cotton. Note that standard non-slip latex backing is not GOTS-compliant, so a fully GOTS woven mat is normally supplied unbacked — we will flag this at sampling.
Yes. The two words describe the same product; “bath mat” is more common in the UK, Australia and India, “bath rug” more common in the United States and usually for larger sizes. Brief us in whichever term you use.
Low and flexible — we would rather start small and grow the programme. The one thing to plan for is that a new woven relief needs loom set-up, so allow 3–4 weeks to an approved first sample, slightly longer than tufted.
Request the woven bath mat and bath rug catalogue, ask for physical samples, or send us a relief you want matched on the loom.
